The Football Federation Australia Cup, commonly known as the FFA Cup, is the main national soccer knockout cup competition in Australia.

From its inception to 2017 this annual competition attracts over 780 teams and features all the teams from the top division, the A-League, the National Premier Leagues as well as from lower tiers in the Australian leagues.

Teams enter the competition in progressional stages, with qualifying rounds used to determine which lower division teams eventually join those from the A-League in later stages of the cup.

Last year Port Melbourne SC progressed into the round of 32 remaining teams, our best ever result and one we want to better in this years’ competition.

A solid performance saw our SL5 side beat last year’s Bayside Premier League champions, TOPSA, 2-0 at Peninsula Grammar. After an even first half, we took control in the second and were deserved winners, repeatedly testing the impressive TOPSA keeper.

Starting XI: G. Thomson-Cook, Turnbull, Andrews, Donker (c), Bernal, Riordan, Rodrigues, Boland, Mios, Shata, Grundy

Subs: Avian, Newman, Shaw, Vella

Goals: Shata (2)

Meanwhile, in a very one-sided game at JL Murphy Reserve, our SL4 side defeated Somerville Eagles 13-0. We dominated possession throughout and could have won by an even higher margin but for some profligacy in front of goal, hitting the woodwork three times.

Starting XI: G. Thomson-Cook, V. Thomson-Cook, Newman, Donker, De. Moloney, M. Orfanos, Da. Moloney (c), Shata, Robins, Shaw, Fraser

Subs: Grundy, Mamalioga, Nosoko, Riordan, Turnbull

Goals: Da. Moloney (4), Fraser (3), Robins (2), De. Moloney, Grundy, Shata, Shaw
